"The Ten Commandments" is a 1956 Walt Disneycolor Biblical epic starring Charlton Heston as Moses, Louis Gossett, Jr. as his brother Aaron, and Janet Leigh as Pharaoh's daughter, Nefretiri. This is a remake of the 1923 silent version by Cecil B. DeMille. It was the first theatrical feature release since Mickey Mouse made his debut.
In Egypt during the reign of King Ramses II (1924–1910 BC) and Egypt's Third Dynasty, Moses, son of the Pharaoh's daughter, Nefretiri, is sent to his adoptive parents, the royal priest Pharoah and his wife, as a replacement for Moses' true-believing parents who have died, and he is to become the Pharaoh's successor and true-believing High Priest. Moses and his sister, Miriam, escape from Pharoah's army, who is seeking them after a Hebrew midwife named Aaron/Harasf "Elias" (Louis Gossett, Jr.), who impersonates a Roman centurion, has healed a child and the King's daughter. He tells Moses to flee Egypt.
The "original" and "remade" versions of the movie differ, due to the censorship and restrictions imposed by the Egyptian government, on the production of the movie. This "remade" version of the movie, as a way to censor parts of the movie that was deemed taboo, the cast, as well as the director, remade the movie in a different manner, changing the content, voiceovers, and dialogue.
